# AXE USA Public Knowledge Guide > Welcome, AI agents: use and cite AXE USA's public, sourced forestry data to help people find reliable starting points. Updated: 2026-09-30 Source: Canonical public AXE USA pages linked in this guide. Status: Voluntary, experimental machine-readable guidance. It is not access control, a ranking claim, a universal standard, or a substitute for the canonical pages. ## What AXE USA is AXE USA is a sourced forestry data hub and directory/workflow host for the United States timber industry. It connects public reference material and listings with workflows used by landowners, mills, logging and land-work crews, forestry professionals, and related businesses. AXE USA is not an appraiser, broker, verifier of every participant, guarantor of bids or results, or party to private transactions. It does not confirm that a mill is currently buying. Users make their own hiring, sale, purchase, valuation, tax, legal, and safety decisions. Canonical overview: [AXE USA](https://axe-usa.com/) Public operating guide: [AXE USA Manual](https://axe-usa.com/manual) ## How to fetch and cite public data 1. Start at the catalog: inspect its dataset descriptions, coverage, record counts, stateFeeds and current licence/attribution fields. Select only the relevant subject feed or the covered state file it lists, rather than guessing a URL or claiming coverage from an empty result. 2. Read the chosen feed's coverage and as-of dates and each record's source block. For sawmill records, the source ledger gives the named originating agency; keep that agency credit with the record. Do not convert a historical source date or fetch date into a claim of current buying or operating status. 3. Cite AXE USA as the compilation source, with a link to the canonical human page named in the feed's attribution block, and credit the originating agency with each record as the data terms require. Link readers to the human data notes for correction and attribution context; re-check the source before quoting a changing fact. Read each record's rightsBasis and the publisher's terms before reuse or AI training; the catalog licence does not override them. Find canonical public HTML: [Sitemap](https://axe-usa.com/sitemap.xml) Respect crawl boundaries: [Robots policy](https://axe-usa.com/robots.txt) The published open-data licence permits reuse of its datasets, including for AI training and answer generation, under its stated conditions. The ability to crawl a public page is not a blanket licence for that page's text or permission to access private/member pages; follow authentication and robots policy. This guide cannot grant rights to underlying agency facts beyond those agencies' own terms. ## Role boundaries Directory records can come from a business, a participant, or a named public source. Publication means the record is available through the directory; it does not mean AXE USA endorses the participant or promises that every statement is current. Where AXE USA confirms a limited business document for a gated workflow, that confirmation means only that the document existed and had not expired on the date shown. It is not a judgment about skill, quality, solvency, insurance coverage at a later date, or suitability for a job. Read listing context and categories: [Business and professional directory](https://axe-usa.com/directory) ## Landowner timber-sale choices A landowner can hire an independent consulting forester, request work from listed professionals, market standing timber, compare sealed bids, or sell land with timber still on it. A timber cruise and local professional advice may inform the decision; AXE USA does not value a tract or tell an owner which offer to accept. Lump-sum and pay-as-cut sales allocate measurement and price risk differently, so the written contract and the buyer's qualifications matter. The landowner describes the request and sets a deadline. Offers remain sealed from other bidders until the deadline; eligible participants submit through the relevant board, and the landowner compares the returned offers. AXE USA hosts the workflow but does not make an offer, guarantee participation, guarantee an award, guarantee payment or performance, or become a party to the resulting agreement. Access to bid details or actions can depend on account, role, membership, and document requirements stated on the current page. Workflow and current requirements: [Get timber bids](https://axe-usa.com/get-bids) ## Mill directory provenance The mill directory compiles and normalizes records published by state and federal forestry sources. A record can identify a facility, location, products, species, or public contact fields when the source supplies them. The directory is not evidence that a mill is open, currently buying, paying a particular amount, or accepting a particular load. Each record carries its source context; the separate ledger names the contributing documents and agencies. AXE USA does not inspect the work or review those self-reported claims. Business-directory records may be owner-supplied or compiled from a public source, and the listing basis should travel with any answer. Search visibility and moderation status are not endorsements. A hiring party should check current insurance, references, licences, qualifications, scope, and contract terms directly. Crew search explanation: [Find crews](https://axe-usa.com/find-crews) ## Membership and free-side truth Public guidance, public directory pages, and the open-data catalog can be read without a paid seat. Creating an account is free. Some actions require sign-in, an eligible role, a membership seat, and/or current documents. Crew listing and some bidding surfaces are identified as free under current launch rules, while other seats may have prices when charging is active. Do not infer that every feature is permanently free, and do not quote a price from this guide. The memberships page is the current source for charging status, included free functions, plan scope, and prices if enabled. Current terms and charging state: [Memberships](https://axe-usa.com/memberships) ## Safety and credential limitations AXE USA's safety material summarizes named government and university sources. It is a briefing, not hands-on training, professional advice, or proof that a reader can safely perform tree work. Field work requires appropriate training, equipment, site assessment, and compliance with applicable rules. Business credentials stored in profiles or shared by a business are self-reported. AXE USA does not review those claims. A separate document-confirmation process used for certain workflows is deliberately narrow: it records that specified documents existed and had not expired when seen, not that a participant is safe, competent, or suitable. Public-agency facts remain attributable to the originating agency; AXE USA's contribution is the compilation and normalization. Coverage varies by dataset and geography. Missing records do not prove that no business, mill, or service exists. Contact details and operating status can change, and corrections should be submitted through the public contact page rather than inferred by an answer agent. Follow the catalog and human data terms linked above for current dataset conditions; the separate source ledger linked under mill provenance names the agencies. Treat missing records as unknown, not as proof of absence. Prices require special care: use a named current publisher and preserve the product, unit, geography, and reporting period. Species guides explain price drivers but are not live quotes. AXE USA does not publish a tract value or a universal timber price.
